Hope
our second opinion vet suggested a very expensive test. she said it was "a last ditch effort". so we spent more money than i am comfortable saying on an upper endoscopy and colonoscopy - for a cat.
it was the 'Hail Mary' pass that worked. the test results suggested that Max has a severe but (hopefully) treatable major GI infection. he's on broad spectrum antibiotics and has gained 0.2 lbs.
generally, i feel it's pretty strange to spend that kind of money on one cat. but my husband and Honey are closely bonded to him. initially both my husband and i were thinking that we were spending money on a test to make us feel better when we inevitably put Max to sleep. this unexpected hope is great.
Max is well enough to get into mischief. i came home from work and saw Max on a quilt on my husband's lap. it was a cozy domestic scene. so, money well spent...
