my best friend, Irene

i interviewed for nursing school and Irene sat next to me in lunch during the full day of interviews. she was in my group interview too. that was my lucky day.

we survived an accelerated nursing school program together. it was made better by her homemade banana bread, Chinese New Year 7-course feast, and margaritas with tacos on Taco Tuesday in Old Town.

Irene finished the Nurse Practitioner program with a specialty in geriatrics. she is now preparing to move from the city we share to a new adventure back east. over sushi i got to hear about how the facility she will be serving is shaping itself to be a community residence complete with a cat, a resident dog, and homelike departments. (how civilized. so much better than a "nursing home".) there will be a hospice unit facing a lake. the leaves were falling and dancing around the entrance of her employer and her new life.

those are some lucky little old men and women getting Irene's care.

she is an admirable person. she seeks to serve her patients. she is a nurse.

and she will continue to be one of my best friends. biscotti ships very well.
