Happy Chinese New Year

More than food. Friends. Family of sorts - I claim my friend, Irene, as my sister.

Last night Irene made another of her splendid Chinese feasts for Chinese New Year's Eve. It was wonderful. We had:

• sweet and sour soup
• homemade eggrolls
• green onion pancakes
• steamed chicken with a great fresh ginger sauce
• roast duck
• roast pork
• steamed red snapper
• sticky rice
• shrimp fried rice
• two kinds of sauteed Asian greens
• strudel with pastry cream and fruit for dessert
• tea

and I may be leaving something out.

The hosts had a lovely home with glowing hardwood floors and a knockout kitchen. We were all rolling egg rolls for frying. It was a festive night with good people.
