Greene and Greene Houses

These are not green houses. These are Greene and Greene houses.

Here's a walk I took last weekend in Pasadena, CA. Architects Charles and Henry Greene are justly known for their Gamble house. They were contemporaries of Frank Lloyd Wright. I greatly prefer Greene and Greene houses over Wright architecture. I previously toured Taliesin West. I have also seen some nice Usonian houses by Wright. Wright is a genius. However, I prefer the asian influence of these Greene and Greene houses. I also suspect that they are more comfortable to live in than the Wright houses.

Within two blocks of the Gamble house is a whole collection of delicious Greene and Greene houses. The photos that follow are showing the houses on my walk in order.

This is my favorite Greene and Greene. It is high and like the prow of a ship. One of the brothers designed this for his house (sorry I don't remember which one).

Here's the garage for my favorite Greene and Greene.

My second favorite Greene and Greene.
