Art In Situ
it is fun to see one of my sculptures living "in situ". the piece is called "Walter's Altar Ego" and is one of a series of Walter's altars that i did. here it is in the arts and crafts house that Walter owned since the 1960s and that Caroline finished renovating after Walter's death. gotta love that inglenook.
here's a close-up. the "phone receivers" are made of aluminum. each phone receiver is stamped with a self-contained memory of conversations i had with Walter. this piece was made some time in the early 1990s. it was made after "Ahava's Altar".
like many people the majority of my relationship with my uncle occurred via the telephone. he was almost always accessible by phone. not always present in person. but he always looked out for me and was the one person i could count on [prior to getting married].
here it is closed.
the green is a nod to Marcel Duchamp's "the Green Box". it is pretty cool to have this sculpture hanging out in the house that Walter lived in when he curated Marcel Duchamp's first American retrospective.
